ARTISTS'
VÄISÄLÄNMÄKI
Many of the artists who
shaped the national culture of Finland at the turn of the century drew their
inspiration from the scenes of Väisälänmäki. Eero
Järnefelt spent the summer of 1893 in Väisälänmäki
and painted for instance the work "Under the Yoke (The Burn-Beating)", from
which Lapinlahti has got the theme for its coat of arms: the burn-beater.
Pekka Halonen painted
several of his works in Väisälänmäki, for example "View
from the Hill (Väisälänmäki)". His brother Antti Halonen
painted landscapes in the hill, still in the 1920's.
The said best drawer of
Finland Raimo Puustinen spent his summers in Väisälänmäki
in the 1970's and 80's. Inspired by the landscape, he created the stained
glass work "Fuuga Savonia" and illustrated the "Railroad" novel by Juhani
Aho.
